How about it? People like stealing things from other accounts, why not put a block on that activity by making it so the owner doesn't get the usual screwjob from the thief and anet for how they deal with this offense?

Suggested before? Well who cares, there's no excuse for not having this anyway.

It's not a bad idea. I would rather see actually hacking prevention but meh.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ssword+storage

Yes it was sugessted before use search next time plox

And theres no excuse except for the fact that I can't think of any game besides the example in that thread that uses it and thats because hacking is fairly common in rs from what I've seen.

AION implemented something like this about 2 weeks ago.
Except the "password" had to be input every time you logged in and/or switched characters, not every time you went to storage, and also I think it's needed to delete characters now. So it was more of a "This is protecting your account in-case someone gets your log-in info as they won't even be able to access anything at all".

I'd first like to know why Guild Wars is the easiest game to get hacked in, possibly ever created in the history of online gaming.

Answer that first (i'm having a hard time figuring it out myself) and then we'll discuss how good adding more passwords is.

I wouldn't mind this at all. Enter the password(or pin number?) the 1st time you log onto a char and when you switch chars you'd have to re-enter it. Not that I hand out my password to anyone. Would just make me feel more... secure. >.>

Aion beats it. And its because of the NCMA not the game itself. Sadly, anet can do nothing about that accept add stuff to the game to prevent hacking. Like that little thing that blizzard sold. While I'm not big on selling security, I would pay for it especially if they made it cheap enough that they were just covering costs of making it.

It'll also piss people off who just want to play the damn game.

One of the things I LOVE about GW is that you have the character select option and don't get returned to the log in screen (which is effectively what you're asking for). When PIN codes got added to another MMO I played on top of passwords, it frustrated the hell out of me. When I wanted to swap characters I was returned to the log in screen, had to relog onto the server and then provide a PIN. If you need to change characters fast (which I often had to do as a staff member), you're slowed down quite majorly at times.

If you're sensible, your log in name won't relate to your character name/Guru name/whatever will give it away that it's you. Choose a password in the same manner, just like you would anywhere else. If you STILL get hacked, then perhaps you need to be looking out for keyloggers/cookie grabbers and update your computer security.

Hackers don't have a magic tool to generate your password/log in ID from thin air or your IGN. Thinking that's the case is an absolute fallacy.

this is another way of simply asking, Anet please deliver us a more secure game / account. I'm absolutely for better security, and if this is the only way they could deliver it, I'm for it. But I'd like something more front-end than this. It is a bit intrusive, and would only be welcome among the very richest who have the most to lose.

Yeah I was kinda thinking about that when I played another mmo a year ago and somehow managed to forget what my security password was. I'm guessing if people don't want it, it's going to keep giving the hackers an open opportunity, yet if we do have it, people will be running into the same problem I had. So what of us having an option to choose if we want our chests locked? and what about some way of recovering said password should we forget? I don't know, not everyone will be happy either way you look at it.

How is this going to help anything at all?

If people get their accounts "hacked", how much harder will it be for them to "hack" the storage password since 90% of the people will use the same password as their login anyway. As well as their email account, bank account....and so on and so on...

I am tempted to say is this needed any more.

I am thinking that so much these days is put straight into the hom there must be a lot less to steal from accounts.

Unless of course the scammer can destroy your hom once its created now that would be really bad news.

as for passwords there should be a second password option that players can set for certain account alterations.
You could choose just what you put behind this second password.

Multi layer defences are always good one password with nothing behind it is very bad.

Problem with choosing a password is that many people often choose crappy ones.
Even an extra 4 digit pin chosen by game would help, and it would ask you the pin whenever you access the storage, delete, trade or drop items if your IP changed since your last successful time. So hacker can't just login/logout to get same IP "since last login", that would be too simple. And entering pin 3 times wrong would alert anet, your email, and block any further attempts for 2 hours.

Why have I yet to be hacked in the five years I've played GW1? I have lots of goodies, too. *shrugs* On topic though, it's not a bad idea *I guess*.

Chances are if they stole your log in password they have your storage password too.

Plus, I dont want to put a password in everytime I go to storage.

I think if you get hacked you probably did something stupid to deserve it. Why not try keeping your account info on lock down instead of adding a very annoying password.

/signed, it's a pretty neat idea, and I wouldn't mind having to type it every time i go into storage. But 4 digit is too little i think, should be more..
